Prostaglandin-Free Lash Serums Compared: 8-Brand Ingredient Breakdown (2026)

We compared 8 prostaglandin-free lash serums by their ingredients, pricing, guarantees and published evidence, using each brand's own product page. This page separates them from 5 popular lash serums that contain prostaglandin analogs, and explains why that distinction matters if you would rather not put one on your lash line.

Quick Picks

The short answer, if you only read one section. Everything behind these picks is in the full comparison below.

Best Overall Prostaglandin-Free Lash Serum SOWN Root 1 Lash Serum

Root 1 combines three peptides, five botanicals and six vitamins (B3, B5, B6, B7, C and E) in one vegan, cruelty-free formula, with no prostaglandin analog in its ingredient list. It comes with SOWN's Growth Guarantee: if you don't get any results in 12 weeks, you get your money back (photo steps apply). We make Root 1, so weigh this pick with that in mind: its evidence is a first-party consumer perception study with 32 participants over 12 weeks, documented in Plate 6.

Budget Pick The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum

At $14.90 for 5 mL ($2.98/mL), it costs the least per mL of any serum here. It is peptide-led, with four named peptides. What it lacks: its plant extracts stop at three (larch wood, red clover flower and green tea leaf), panthenol is its only vitamin, The Ordinary offers no results guarantee, and it has no published study.

Lash + Brow Pick Luna Nectar Moon Boost Lash & Brow Enhancing Serum

Its directions cover both lashes and brows, so one bottle serves both. The formula is built on plant oils and botanicals plus vitamin E and biotin, with no peptides, applied once daily, ideally at night. Luna Nectar states it is Leaping Bunny certified and publishes no study for this serum.

Why Prostaglandin Analogs Matter

What prostaglandin analogs are

Prostaglandin analogs are synthetic compounds that mimic prostaglandins, naturally occurring lipid compounds in the body. The best-known one for lashes is bimatoprost, the active ingredient in the prescription product Latisse, which was first developed as a glaucoma medication. Cosmetic lash serums have used other analogs, including isopropyl cloprostenate (IPCP), dechloro dihydroxy difluoro ethylcloprostenolamide (DDDE) and methylamido dihydro noralfaprostal (MDN). Prostaglandins in lash serums explained.

What regulators and drug labels say

  • Eye irritation, redness and itching. Eye itching, eye redness and ocular irritation are among the most frequently reported reactions in the Latisse (bimatoprost) prescribing information.
  • Iris color change. The Latisse label advises patients about "the potential for increased brown iris pigmentation which is likely to be permanent."
  • Eyelid skin darkening. The Latisse label states that bimatoprost has been reported to darken pigmented skin around the eye, and the lashes.
  • Loss of fat around the eye. Postmarketing reports in the Latisse label include periorbital fat atrophy, which can make the eye area look hollow. Sunken eyes and lash serums.
  • EU scientific opinion. In Opinion SCCS/1680/25, adopted February 2, 2026, the EU's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety assessed isopropyl cloprostenate (IPCP), methylamido dihydro noralfaprostal (MDN) and DDDE and stated that "the SCCS is of the opinion that none of them can be considered safe for use in cosmetic products intended for promoting the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows."
  • Health Canada. Health Canada's Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist lists prostaglandins and their analogs, including isopropyl cloprostenate by name, as prohibited in cosmetics.

The Latisse statements describe a prescription drug at a drug concentration, not any cosmetic serum on this page. How often these effects occur with a given cosmetic serum is not established. Read more: Are prostaglandins bad in lash serums? and Prostaglandin lash serum side effects.

How to spot them on a label

Scan the full ingredient list for the fragments "prost" or "cloprostenol" anywhere inside a word, as in isopropyl cloprostenate, bimatoprost or ethylcloprostenolamide. Then check for the abbreviations DDDE and MDN. If any of these appear, the serum contains a prostaglandin analog. Every plate below shows the result of this scan.

Sorted alphabetically by product name. This is not a ranking. Prostaglandin status means no prostaglandin analog appears in the ingredient list the brand discloses (scan terms: prost, cloprost, bimatoprost, latanoprost, travoprost, tafluprost, dechloro, dihydroxy, methylamido, trifluoromethyl, DDDE, MDN). Formulas and labels can change; check the current label.

"Brand statement" means the brand's own claim; we did not check a certifier or study record. "Not stated" means the brand does not publish it.

  1. Size per bottle label.
  2. Vegamour does not state the size on its own site; 3 mL (0.1 fl oz) is the retailer-listed size. Price per mL is based on that figure.

How to Evaluate Any Lash Serum Ingredient List

You can run the same check we used on any serum, including ours. It takes about two minutes with the product page open.

  1. Find the full ingredient list. Look for the INCI list on the product page or the packaging, not just a list of "key ingredients." If a brand does not publish its full ingredient list, treat that as a red flag.

  2. Scan for prostaglandin analogs. Look for "prost" or "cloprostenol" anywhere inside a word, plus the named analogs DDDE and MDN. One match means the serum contains a prostaglandin analog, whatever the front of the box says.

  3. Sort the actives into families. Peptides usually have "peptide" in the name (Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1). Botanicals are plant extracts, juices and oils, named by their Latin plant names. Vitamins include niacinamide (B3), panthenol or calcium pantothenate (B5), biotin (B7), ascorbic acid (C) and tocopherol (E).

  4. Check the evidence. Does the brand link to a study? Note how many participants, how long it ran, who ran it, and whether the full protocol is published or only the headline result. A consumer perception study measures what people noticed, not a measured change in lash length.

That last step applies to us too: Root 1's evidence is a first-party consumer perception study, and it is labeled that way in the table. For a deeper read, see Peptide vs prostaglandin lash serums.

Lash Serum FAQ

What is a prostaglandin-free lash serum?

A prostaglandin-free lash serum is one whose ingredient list contains no prostaglandin analog, such as isopropyl cloprostenate, bimatoprost, DDDE or MDN. These serums rely on other ingredients, usually peptides, botanicals and vitamins, to condition lashes. "Prostaglandin-free" describes the label; it is not a promise that a product can never irritate. Compare the 8 prostaglandin-free serums above, or read what a prostaglandin-free lash serum is.

Which lash serums contain prostaglandins?

Of the popular serums we checked, Babe Original Essential Lash Serum, GrandeLASH-MD, NutraLuxe Lash and RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner list a prostaglandin analog, and prescription Latisse contains bimatoprost. The labels name isopropyl cloprostenate for Babe Original Essential and GrandeLASH-MD and ethylcloprostenolamide for RevitaLash Advanced; NutraLuxe Lash's listing of isopropyl cloprostenate comes from a 2022 ingredient image on its product page. Formulas change, so check the current label. See the reference table and which lash serums contain prostaglandins.

Do prostaglandin-free lash serums actually work?

The evidence is limited: most published data on prostaglandin-free serums comes from studies run or sponsored by the brands themselves, and none of the serums on this page has been tested head to head against prescription bimatoprost. A 2024 review in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that non-prostaglandin ingredients "show promising data, more studies are needed due to a lack of formal evidence in eyelash serum use." The evidence column above lists the study type, size and length each brand publishes. Read do lash serums actually work?

How long does a prostaglandin-free lash serum take to work?

Plan on about 12 weeks of consistent use before judging a prostaglandin-free lash serum. The studies brands publish for the serums on this page ran from 8 to 16 weeks, and SOWN's Root 1 consumer perception study ran 12 weeks with 32 participants; individual results vary. Lashes grow in cycles, so change is gradual: see the lash growth cycle and a realistic lash serum timeline.

What's the difference between peptide and prostaglandin lash serums?

Prostaglandin serums contain a synthetic prostaglandin analog, the same class of compound as bimatoprost in prescription Latisse, while peptide serums rely on peptides (short chains of amino acids), often alongside botanicals and vitamins. Bimatoprost is backed by a randomized, vehicle-controlled trial on its FDA label, and that label also describes effects such as iris and eyelid skin darkening. Peptide formulas leave that ingredient class out, and their evidence varies by formula. Read peptide vs prostaglandin lash serums.

Can I use a prostaglandin-free lash serum while pregnant or breastfeeding?

There is not enough evidence to call any lash serum safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so ask your doctor before using one. "Prostaglandin-free" means one ingredient class is absent from the label, not that a product has been tested in pregnancy. The EU's SCCS based its 2026 opinion on three prostaglandin analogs partly on the lack of data to exclude reproductive and developmental toxicity. Root 1 is formulated without those analogs, but SOWN has not studied it in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

What happens if you stop using lash serum?

Your lashes gradually return to their natural growth pattern after you stop. Any change you saw fades as lashes shed and regrow on their own cycle, and how quickly varies from person to person. Several brands on this page suggest a lower-frequency maintenance routine after the first months instead of stopping outright, as shown in the Application Frequency column. Read how long lash serum results last.

Are prostaglandin-free lash serums safe for sensitive eyes?

Prostaglandin-free removes one ingredient class linked to eye-area side effects, but any eye-area cosmetic can still cause irritation, so no serum can be promised to suit sensitive eyes. Read the full ingredient list for anything you already react to, patch test if the brand advises it, apply only where the directions say, and stop if redness, itching or swelling appears. See the lash serum side effects guide.

Are prostaglandin lash serums banned in the EU?

We could not confirm an adopted EU restriction as of October 14, 2026, but in February 2026 the EU's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety concluded that three prostaglandin analogs used in lash serums cannot be considered safe in lash and brow growth cosmetics. Opinion SCCS/1680/25 covers isopropyl cloprostenate (IPCP), methylamido dihydro noralfaprostal (MDN) and DDDE. An SCCS opinion is scientific advice, not legislation. Read what the EU's SCCS opinion means for lash serums.

Do lash serums with vitamins work better than peptide-only serums?

There is no head-to-head study showing that lash serums with vitamins work better than peptide-only serums. Formulas on this page differ in what they combine: Root 1 pairs three peptides with five botanicals and six vitamins, Babe Original Renewing and GrandeLASH Peptide+ pair many peptides with botanicals and four vitamins, and The Ordinary is peptide-led with panthenol as its only vitamin. A broader formula is a formulation choice, not proof of better results, so compare the evidence column as well as the ingredient column.

What should I look for in a lash serum ingredient list?

Look first for any prostaglandin analog: words containing "prost" or "cloprostenol," plus the abbreviations DDDE and MDN. Next, confirm the brand publishes its full ingredient list, see which peptides, botanicals and vitamins it uses, and look for a linked study with its number of participants and length. Our four-step method walks through it.

Does GrandeLASH have prostaglandins?

GrandeLASH-MD does: its label lists isopropyl cloprostenate, a prostaglandin analog. GrandeLASH Peptide+ (formerly GrandeLASH-Sensitive) is Grande Cosmetics' prostaglandin-free option, and its disclosed ingredient list contains no prostaglandin analog. Both were checked on Grande's own product pages on October 14, 2026.

Is RevitaLash prostaglandin-free?

No. RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner's US ingredient list includes ethylcloprostenolamide, which the brand labels "a prostaglandin analogue." We checked RevitaLash's own product page on October 14, 2026; formulas can differ by market, so check the label on the box you buy.

Does Babe Lash have prostaglandins?

Babe Original Essential Lash Serum does; Babe Original Renewing Lash Serum does not. Essential lists "Isopropyl Cloprostenate (an analog of prostaglandin)," while Renewing's disclosed ingredient list contains no prostaglandin analog. Both were checked on babeoriginal.com on October 14, 2026.
